When the Kansas City Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl, everyone has their game face on â and for the wives and girlfriends of the players, that means one man gets the call: Joey Diaz, the Chiefsâ go-to makeup magician.
For two years, the 30-year-old Kansas City-based artist has been the unsung hero behind the flawless looks of Chiefs WAGs â from Brittany Mahomesâ iconic red lip to the camera-ready glow of playersâ wives and coachesâ partners. But last yearâs Super Bowl? That was a whirlwind straight out of a movie.
âPlease Let the Chiefs Win So We Can Go to the Super Bowl and Glam!â
It all began in January 2025. Joey was sitting in a Kansas City bar, glued to the AFC Championship Game â Chiefs vs. Bills â when destiny came calling.
âI was literally praying, âPlease let the Chiefs win so we can go to the Super Bowl and glam,ââ Joey laughs. âThe second we won, I ran to the bathroom and booked my flight. I didnât even finish my drink!â
But there was one little problem â no hotels left in New Orleans. Not one.
Did that stop him? Of course not. âI told myself, âYouâve slept on worse.â So I packed my kit, my brushes, and my setting spray â and went for it.â
Airport Floors and 8 A.M. Glam Calls
The night before Super Bowl Sunday, Joey landed in New Orleans around 11 p.m. With nowhere to sleep, he made the airport his temporary home.
âI crashed in a corner with my hoodie as a pillow,â he says. âWhen I woke up, my back was screaming. I had to see a chiropractor when I got back â no joke.â
By sunrise, he was brushing his teeth in an airport bathroom, freshening up, and heading straight to the Chiefsâ hotel for an 8 a.m. glam call time.
The scene he walked into was pure, glamorous chaos.
âPicture New York Fashion Week meets a tailgate party,â Joey recalls. âWe had 10 makeup artists, 10 hairstylists, and a stream of WAGs walking in and out every few minutes. The room was tiny â maybe 700 square feet â and it was Louisiana hot. We had fans blowing just to keep the mascara from melting!â
 24 Hours of Sweat-Proof, Camera-Proof, and Touchdown-Proof Glam
The stakes were high â and so was the humidity.
âThese girls needed makeup that would survive everything: the game, the interviews, the afterparties, and the tears,â Joey says. âYou donât want a Super Bowl smokey eye running down someoneâs face by halftime!â
He worked nonstop, blending, contouring, and perfecting each look with military precision. Each WAG left with a custom touch-up kit â mini powder, gloss, and setting spray â before Joey jumped straight to the next.
âItâs like an assembly line of beauty,â he laughs. âBut every single one of them deserves to feel like a star.â âI Watched the Game in Pieces at the Airportâ
By the time the last eyelash was glued and the final lip gloss shimmered under the lights, Joey barely had time to breathe. He packed up and headed straight back to the airport, catching glimpses of the game during layovers.
âIt was bittersweet,â he admits. âI didnât get to see the Chiefs play in person, but honestly â seeing everyone glowing, confident, and ready? That was my Super Bowl.â
He landed back in Kansas City at 11 p.m., exhausted, exhilarated, and forever changed.
âI was just a boy with a dream,â he says softly. âAnd that dream took me from doing makeup in my bedroom to glamming the most powerful women in football.â
 From Brushes to Big Dreams
Five years ago, Joey was working retail â exhausted, unsure, and looking for purpose. In 2020, he took the leap and launched his freelance makeup business. Now, his work has been seen on red carpets, at Super Bowls, and across social media feeds everywhere.
âPeople see the glam, the lights, the lashes â but behind it is pure hustle,â he says. âEvery contour, every highlight, every smile is part of a story.â
And for Joey, that story is only getting started.
 The Fans React
When the story broke, fans flooded social media with love for the artistâs grit and gratitude:
âFrom the airport floor to the Super Bowl suite â thatâs the definition of chasing your dream.â
âJoey Diaz is the real MVP of game day glam.â
âCan we get a Netflix doc? Because this is ICONIC.â
Through sleepless nights, airport chaos, and heat-fueled mayhem, Joey Diaz proved one thing â that passion and perseverance shine brighter than any highlighter.
Because behind every perfect game-day photo, thereâs a dreamer with a brush â and a story worth telling.
