Tiger Woods’ Son Charlie Fails to Qualify for US Open for Second Time

Charlie carded a 3-over-par 75 during Thursday’s qualifier, falling short by seven strokes

Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, did not qualify for the upcoming US Open.

As his father visited the White House on Thursday, May 8, for the first time since going public with his relationship with Vanessa Trump, Charlie fell short in his second attempt at qualifying for the tournament, according to ESPN.

The 16-year-old golfer carded a 3-over-par 75 during Thursday’s qualifier at Wellington Golf Club in Florida. Per the outlets, Charlie was seven strokes shy of the final qualifying score, an improvement from his performance in last year’s US Junior Amateur, which he missed by 18 strokes.

The 2025 tournament will be held June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Tiger, 49, shares Charlie with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren. The former couple are also parents to daughter, Sam Alexis Woods.

The famed golfer spent the day in D.C. while Charlie tried to qualify, and was pictured alongside Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana in a photo shared to X on Thursday. “Met @TigerWoods at the White House today!” Banks wrote, and added American flag and golf emojis.

Woods’ visit comes two months after going Instagram official with Trump, 47, the ex-wife of President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr.

Along with Tiger’s son, Vanessa’s daughter, Kai Trump, is also an aspiring professional golfer. In March, Kai, 17, and Charlie both competed in the Junior Invitational at the Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville.

Vanessa, 47, shares Kai with her ex-husband, Donald Trump Jr., who she divorced in 2018 after 12 years of marriage.

Charlie and Tiger are often seen on the golf course together. “Tiger loves spending time with Charlie on the golf course, but he has a completely different vibe than Earl had while working with him,” a source told PEOPLE in 2020.

“They’re all smiles. Tiger is definitely teaching him the right techniques, but there’s not the intensity that Earl had with him,” the insider continued. “It’s a total bonding situation. Tiger can get goofy and funny with Charlie.”

In 2022, he told ESPN, “Any time I get a chance to spend time with my son, it’s always special. And to do it in a competitive forum, the last couple of years have been magical.”
