Nelly Korda enjoys a surprising new hobby that helps her…’forget about golf’

How does Nelly Korda relax from the pressures of being the No. 1 golfer in the world and contending in LPGA events? Building Legos, of course.

Korda posted about her new hobby from Las Vegas, where she played in the T-Mobile Match Play Championship but didn’t make the weekend Round of 16.

She worked on a flower and bird among other creations in her down time with fellow LPGA player Stephanie Kyriacou.

“I’ve always loved Legos. I actually started earlier this year,” Korda said from the JM Eagle LA Championship. “It’s just another way to get your minds off things. You can go home or when you’re in tournaments go read a book or you can go watch your favorite show. When you’re not interested in any of those two things, it’s just another way to get your mind off golf. It’s very intricate.”

The suggested ages are listed on the box, beginning 3 and up, but Korda jokingly wasn’t sure if those guidelines are accurate.

Some of Nelly Korda’s latest Lego creations.

“Sometimes it says 9 and up, and I’m like, how are 9-year-olds doing this when I’ve had a hard time doing this? I just love it,” Korda said. “Steph and I did three the week of Arizona. We finished the first one really quickly and we were like let’s just keep going. I’ve made it a thing of mine. I haven’t done one this week.”

Korda also plans to leave a little surprise for the next guest at each rented house she stays at while on tour.

“At every Airbnb I’m just going to leave a Lego there. My sister [Jessica Korda] said, ‘that’s expensive.’ I was like I know but it’s a form of entertainment for me,” Korda said.

Her favorite she’s built is the orchid. She’s working on a little lion at her home in Bradenton, Fla. On Instagram, she also asked fans which Lego set she should do next and jokingly asked the company to support her and Kyriacou’s Lego dreams. Can you say potential sponsorship?

Korda is coming up on a busy stretch of golf. She said her gameplan is to play the week before majors this season, so she’s in Los Angeles this week at El Caballero Country Club. Then she’ll defend her major title at the Chevron Championship next week at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands. When she won that major in Texas, it was a historic, record-tying five consecutive tournament victories.

Inquiring minds want to know what she’ll build next week since everything in Texas is billed as bigger and better.
