The Green Bay Packers have officially placed veteran kicker Brandon McManus on injured reserve (IR) following the unexpected breakout of Lucas Havrisik, who has taken over kicking duties in stunning fashion.
McManus, a 12-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion, had been sidelined since Week 6 after suffering a quadriceps injury during practice. He was solid prior to the setback — connecting on
7 of 9 field goals and 11 of 12 extra points — but his absence opened the door for Havrisik to shine.
Since stepping in, Havrisik has been flawless, going
4-for-4 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points, including a franchise-record 61-yard bomb that helped spark the Packers’ comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7.
Head coach
Matt LaFleur praised the young kicker’s poise:
“Lucas has earned every opportunity he’s gotten. He stepped into a pressure spot and delivered big for us. That’s what you want from a competitor.”
With Havrisik’s hot streak and McManus still recovering, the Packers made the tough call to move the veteran to IR, meaning he’ll miss at least the next four weeks.
The decision eases the team’s roster crunch while ensuring Havrisik remains the primary kicker moving forward. League sources indicate the Packers have received “exploratory interest” from other teams inquiring about McManus’s status once healthy, but for now,
Havrisik’s leg is the future in Green Bay.
“It’s a good problem to have,” LaFleur added. “When you’ve got two guys capable of winning games with their leg, it speaks to the depth of this roster.”
The Packers, now 5–1 and leading the NFC North, appear confident that their new kicking sensation can keep the momentum alive — even as one of the league’s most respected veterans watches from the sidelines.
