Former world champion boxer Amir Khan has urged couples to reconsider booking their nuptials at The Balmayna, a luxury wedding venue in Bolton where he serves as landlord.
The 39-year-old took to social media platform X earlier today to announce he is pursuing legal proceedings against the venue’s operator amid an ongoing rent dispute.
Khan alleges that Excellency Group, the company managing the four-storey glass-fronted establishment, has failed to make rental payments for close to three years.
The venue operator has firmly rejected these assertions, branding them unfounded and maintaining that all scheduled events will proceed without disruption.

The retired pugilist claims that Mohammad Jaberansari, director of Excellency Group which operates the venue, has not fulfilled his rental obligations since an initial 18-month rent-free period concluded.
In his statement posted on X, Khan wrote: “We advise anyone who has booked the wedding to hold off until this issue is resolved, as I would not want you to risk losing your money or deposits.”
He added: “We recognise that many individuals have made reservations at the venue, and I regret to inform you that I am taking legal action regarding this situation.”
The Balmayna responded via Instagram, with a statement declaring: “Amir Khan has no involvement whatsoever in the ownership, management, or operation of Balmayna.”
The venue characterised the situation as a private matter between landlord and tenant, insisting it is being handled through proper legal channels.

Excellency Group dismissed the boxer’s public comments as “misinformed, baseless, and should be disregarded,” whilst also describing certain remarks as “malicious” and “defamatory.”
The company stated it would not be drawn into public disputes or online speculation, affirming its commitment to addressing the matter “lawfully, professionally, and privately.”
The Balmayna sought to reassure clients that confirmed bookings, events and deposits remain entirely unaffected by the dispute.
“Balmayna remains fully operational, financially secure, and committed to delivering the exceptionally high standards for which we are known,” the statement read.
The company emphasised that its priority remains delivering “magical events and experiences” for clients celebrating once-in-a-lifetime occasions.
