Charlie Woods’ high school team scored a big victory this week

Charlie Woods and the Benjamin boys golf team edged out their state champion rivals to secure a trophy in the first event of Florida’s 2025 high school golf postseason.

Woods, the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, helped the Bucs to a three-shot victory over Oxbridge Academy in the District 13-1A Championship on Oct. 28 at the Champions Club at Summerfield in Stuart.

Benjamin freshman Clint Lewis carded six birdies to win the individual district championship with a 67 (5-under), two shots clear of Oxbridge’s Joey Iaciofano and Kenny Klein as well as Benjamin’s Andrew Tsar.

Woods shot 74 (2-over) to finish tied for ninth after a solid round marred only by a double bogey on the par-5 eighth hole.

Benjamin and Oxbridge Academy, the last two Florida state champions in Class 1A, each advanced to the Region 4-1A championships, which will be hosted at The Park in West Palm Beach on Nov. 3.

District tournaments are the first elimination round on the path to the state championships hosted Nov. 11-19 at Mission Resort + Club at Howey-in-the-Hills.

The first and second-place teams as well as select players from non-qualifying teams advance out of districts to regionals.

The District 13-1A tournament featured one of Florida’s most difficult district fields with four top 50 teams — Benjamin (No. 1), Oxbridge Academy (No. 8), Cardinal Newman (No. 41) and King’s Academy (No. 46) — from iWanamaker’s latest state rankings.

University of Florida commit Lawson Ford from Cardinal Newman shot 73 (1-over) but only narrowly grabbed the final individual qualifying spot with an eighth-place finish.
