Five-time major champion Yani Tseng comes back from the abyss to win on the LET

Former No. 1 Yani Tseng won for the first time on Sunday since the 2014 Taifong Ladies Open. The five-time major champion carded eight birdies on her last 18 holes Sunday to win the weather-shortened Wistron Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour.

Making the moment that much sweeter was the fact that she did it on home soil in Taiwan at Sunrise Golf and Country Club, a course she’s played since she was a teenager.

“It’s been a very long time since I’ve felt this”, said Tseng, who won by four strokes after carding rounds of 63-67 to finish at 14 under, in a release.

“I’m so grateful for my fans, friends and family all cheering me on. It really helped with them on the course and gave me a lot of confidence throughout the last couple of days. Until the last hole, I wasn’t sure if the scores were correct on the board. It’s been such a long time to be able to stand in this position.”

Tseng, 36, wrapped up the end of Round 1 on Sunday morning and then went back out later to begin Round 2. There was no cut. New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey finished second at 10 under.

Tseng, who is now eligible for LET membership, owns seven career LET titles.

Earlier this season, Tseng made headlines when she qualified for her first U.S. Women’s Open in nine years. Her game has experienced a resurgence after she beat the yips by starting to putt left-handed.

Tseng topped the Rolex Rankings for more than two years consecutively from February 2011 to March 2013 and won 15 times on the LPGA.
