A shocking revelation has left the golf world in stitches as LPGA veteran Mel Reid’s embarrassing moment with her coach has been brought to light.

The incident, shared by Reid herself on a podcast hosted by Kira Dixon, involves a hilarious mix-up that had everyone, including golf personality Amanda Balionis, in disbelief.

Amid dealing with a sore wrist and mental fatigue before the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Mel Reid opened up about her struggles with anxiety and depression, praising her former mental coach Duncan McCarthy for his role in her recent successes on the course. However, the spotlight shifted from mental health advocacy to comedy when Reid recounted a memorable mishap with McCarthy.

The cringeworthy yet comical moment occurred when McCarthy asked Reid to write a testimony, but a misunderstanding led Reid to mistakenly refer to it as a eulogy instead. The mix-up took an unexpected turn when Reid innocently sent an email to McCarthy’s wife, Danielle, titled “Duncan’s eulogy,” leaving everyone bewildered until the confusion was eventually cleared up.

Amanda Balionis’s dreams come true on flight between golf events

The CBS Sports reporter has been off on her travels once more this week as her busy PGA Tour schedule continues, and she was treated to a surprise whilst on her way to ‘The Queen City’ to preview the PGA Championship

Amanda Balionis could not believe her eyes when a furry friend emerged from beneath her seat on a recent flight.

The popular CBS Sports reporter might be best renowned for her golf coverage on the PGA Tour but she also has a burning passion for dogs, which is evident through her tendency to upload pictures of them to her social media pages and, of course, the fact that she is the founder of Puppies & Golf, a non-profit organization which advocates for rescue dogs.

Founded in 2020, the charity aims to create positive connections between humans and rescue dogs and raise awareness about the benefits of pet adoption. Balionis has fostered a number of rescue dogs and frequently shares updates on their progress, and even previously received the support of Rory McIlroy, who urged viewers in a post on Instagram to adopt a dog named Cuddles.

“Hi everyone, I’m Rory McIlroy and this is Cuddles,” he said of the older dog looking for a family. “Cuddles is waiting to be adopted and find her forever home. So, if you feel so inclined, if you want to adopt her, I guess click the link and you’ll know where to find her.”

Balionis previously volunteered for K9s for Warriors while working for the PGA Tour in Jacksonville, Florida, and found it incredibly rewarding, eventually inspiring her to start her golf-centric charity. “It was really fulfilling and gratifying. It made me feel like more of a whole, well-rounded person,” she shared in a December 2020 chat with Golf Digest

With her unwavering love for dogs in mind, then, it perhaps comes as no surprise that Balionis could hardly contain herself when she recently spotted man’s best friend on a plane. The 38-year-old recently traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, to preview the upcoming PGA Championship, the second major tournament of the year, but was starstruck with what happened on her way there.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, she uploaded a short clip from her seat that had the caption: “IS MY DREAM HAPPENING.”At first, all viewers could see was her bag between her feet, but then a furry, golden-colored tail appeared as she moved her camera down towards the floor. Before she could reach it, however, the unidentified visitor appeared to make its way back to where it came from as the tail began to disappear out of sight.

It was practically a dream come true for the much-loved sportscaster, who probably couldn’t have asked for much more as she tried to pass the time while on her latest flight. As one of the biggest names in golf coverage, Balionis does a lot of traveling as part of her job covering the biggest and best events on the PGA Tour.

Already this year, she has featured on CBS Sports’ coverage of the likes of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational, RBC Heritage, last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans and, of course, The Masters. CBS is currently covering every single PGA Tour event up until the U.S. Open across the weekend of June 12-15, meaning there is plenty more action still to come for Balionis.

Nonetheless, her busy work schedule doesn’t take away from her time spent with dogs and efforts to help foster them. In December, Balionis shared an update regarding the adorable rescue puppy named Jenga that she fostered the previous month, which was gifted to her by her mother until they were able to find it a forever home.

“For those of you who fell in love with Jenga like we did when we fostered her for Thanksgiving… she’s been adopted!!” Balionis posted on Instagram at the time, which was accompanied by a picture of Jenga with her new family – which had been shared from the Rescue Center’s page – sitting on a couch.

During her six month stint covering the NFL last year, Balionis also took to the social media app to combine her two favorite things; dogs and sports. Posting several snaps from the Arizona Cardinals game vs the New England Patriots at State Farm Stadium in December, she included one of her posing on the field along with one of an adorable corgi dressed up for the holidays.

“The motto for the Cardinals this week: You can’t win them all if you don’t win this one. That’s exactly what Arizona did as they try to control what they can control and hope it’s enough to sneak into the playoffs,” she captioned the post. “Ps. Christmas corgi races are everything. Say hi to diabetic alert dog Delilah who moonlights as an elite sprinter on her weekends off,” she added.
