Green Bay, WI – October 16, 2025
Tensions between players and referees in the NFL have flared again — this time after Green Bay Packers defensive end Micah Parsons delivered a blunt message about league officiating during his Thursday press conference, saying he’s prepared to be fined for speaking out.
Before the 2025 season began, Green Bay made headlines when they traded for the four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro from the Dallas Cowboys, sending Kenny Clark and two future first-round picks to acquire Parsons. The move was intended to revive the Packers’ struggling pass rush after a disappointing 2024 campaign.
Six weeks into the season, however, the Packers’ defense has tallied just 12 sacks, with Parsons accounting for 2.5 of them. Though he’s consistently pressuring quarterbacks, the team hasn’t yet seen the explosion of big plays they envisioned. Parsons believes the reason isn’t about effort — but officiating.
During his press availability, Parsons didn’t hold back, accusing NFL officials of favoring offensive players to keep scoring high:
“Five years of not getting a call, you eventually stop worrying about it,”
Parsons said. “They don’t call offsides for offense, but they’ll call it on defense. They won’t call offensive pass interference, but they’ll call defensive pass interference immediately. They wanna load the points up so fans can be happy. They’ll call defensive holding, but not offensive holding. Let’s just wake up.”
“I might get a fine for this (press) conference.”#Packers EDGE rusher Micah Parsons feels there’s a lot of rules to protect players on offense, but that’s not happening for the defense.
Then, with a wry smile, Parsons added, “I might get a fine for this press conference.”
Head coach Matt LaFleur later acknowledged Parsons’ frustration, saying he plans to speak with officials before Sunday’s game about
holding calls against his star pass rusher.
For now, Green Bay fans stand firmly behind Parsons, echoing his sentiment that referees have been letting too much slide when it comes to blocking him. Whether the NFL responds — or fines him — remains to be seen. But one thing is clear:
Micah Parsons isn’t afraid to challenge the system, even if it costs him.
