McIlroy, 35, revealed how he celebrated his victory while speaking to reporters on Wednesday, April 23 ahead of the Zurich Classic in New Orleans. The Irish golfer said it was “absolutely amazing” to get to spend some time with his family, including wife Erica Stoll and daughter Poppy, after the win.According toCNN, McIlroy traveled back to Northern Island to visit friends and family, and spent time celebrating at his new house near London.“Yeah, just to be with them, to be with [wife and daughter] Erica and Poppy and my mom and dad and to see Michael Bannon, my lifelong coach…and just celebrate with the people that have been a part of this whole thing for my entire career, my entire life, was absolutely amazing,” McIlroy said, perNBC Sports.McIlroy also said, “It’s been an amazing few days after, and to be able to reflect on it and everything that happened and the magnitude of everything, I think the big thing for me is just how the whole journey sort of resonated with people and the people that have reached out to me,’ per CNN,“It’s not every day you get to fulfill one of your lifelong goals and dreams, and I’ve just really tried to enjoy everything that comes along with that.”

McIlroy also revealed that he chatted with two U.S. Presidents following his victory at the Masters, per CNN. “Just people reaching out from all walks of life, whether it be sports, entertainment, culture,” he told reporters. “People that you would never even think that would watch golf or would know what’s going on, that was very, very humbling, I guess.”Following a rocky year with Stoll in 2024, including a called-off divorce that McIlroy recently described as a “wake-up call,” the golfer said he “honestly could not be in a better place in my life professionally, personally, all of it,” while speaking with reporters. “It’s amazing what a year can do.”

McIlroy filed for divorce on May 13, 2024, PEOPLE confirmed at the time.
