Rory McIlroy’s wife ‘makes big decision on relationship’ just days after golf star won the Masters

Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, reportedly wants them both to leave America in order to return to the UK following the golfer’s triumph at the Masters on Sunday.

McIlroy had gone into the tournament at Augusta hoping to claim the first Green Jacket of his career at the 17th attempt.

And though Sunday’s finale was a dramatic one, the Northern Irishman was able to fend off competition from Justin Rose to reign supreme.

McIlroy and Erica came close to divorcing last year, only for the sports star to announce a dramatic U-turn in May.

Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, reportedly wants them both to leave America in order to return to the UK following the golfer’s triumph at the Masters on Sunday

The couple, along with their four-year-old daughter, Poppy, all currently reside in Florida.

A report from the Daily Mail says, however, says that Erica wants the trio to leave America in order to return to the UK.

It’s claimed that Erica, who has been described as a ‘city girl’, is ‘itching to start afresh’ as the couple continue to rebuild their relationship.

McIlroy, speaking in Netflix’s Full Swing golf series last year, admitted that his wife missed spending time in England.

“If it was up to her [Erica], she wouldn’t move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there,” he said.

Golf star JJ Spaun has also suggested that McIlroy is open to returning to the UK given he’s been building a house there.

Spaun said: “He’s super cool. We were talking about the UK.

“I know he’s Northern Irish, but I asked him if he ever hangs out in London. Because my wife has got a really good friend that lives out there and loves going there.”

Rory McIlroy was emotional as the golf star beat Justin Rose to win the Masters on Sunday

He continued: “I asked him about that, and he said, ‘Oh yeah, I’m building a house out there.’

“He kept it really friendly and light, and then we chatted a lot until the back nine, and that was it.”

After winning the PGA Championship in 2012, a year after he’d secured US Open glory, McIlroy spent big on a ‘dream home’ in Northern Ireland.

However, he was lured by the prospect of living in Florida due to the weather in America – which is significantly warmer.

Meanwhile, speaking on Sunday night, an emotional McIlroy basked in the glory of his Masters triumph and admitted he wondered if he’d ever secure the trophy he wanted the most.

“It feels incredible. This is my 17th time here and I started to wonder if it would ever be my time,” he said.

“The last 10 years coming here with the burden of the grand slam on my shoulders and trying to achieve it, I wonder what we’re going to talk about going into next year.

“I’m absolutely honoured, thrilled and proud to be able to call myself a Masters champion.”

Rory McIlroy has now achieved the career Grand Slam after his victory at the Masters on Sunday

He added: “When I hit the wedge into the creek on 13 I felt like I did a really good job of bouncing back from that and the double at the first as well.

“I was really nervous going out and almost the double on the first calmed me down and got me into it.

“The way I responded to setbacks all week, I couldn’t be more proud of myself.

“I had two yards less in the play-off than regulation and a flatter lie as well. It was a good number, just needed a committed swing and made one at the right time.”
