Liverpool are increasingly likely to complete the signing of Marc Guehi as soon as Crystal Palace agree a £45million deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande, sources have told Football Insider.
Diomande is being targeted by Palace as a direct replacement for Guehi, who has been linked with a Selhurst Park exit for over a year.
Sources say that a domino effect could be triggered as soon as the South London side bring in the Ivorian defender, as it would enable them to sell their captain.
Liverpool have registered their interest in Guehi and have been closely monitoring his situation all summer.
Amid doubts over the long-term future of Ibrahima Konate and following the £35m sale of Jarel Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, the Merseyside giants see Guehi as an A-list defensive option capable of slotting straight into their starting XI.
Guehi has less than 12 months left on his current deal, which has left Steve Parish eager to cash in on him now, rather than lose him on a free this time next year.
Diomande deal being held up by major financial talks
Despite the fact that Palace are in advanced negotiations with Sporting over the purchase of Diomande, it is far from an easy deal to do.
Sources say that the major £45m asking price could be holding up talks, as it is a huge financial outlay for the Eagles.
Since joining Sporting from Danish side Midtjylland in January 2023, Diomande has developed into one of the Portuguese league’s most promising centre-backs.
Last season, the Ivory Coast international started 29 out of a possible 34 league games, as the Lisbon-based side beat Benfica to the Liga Portugal title by two points.

Liverpool name new Luis Diaz asking price
Meanwhile, Liverpool have set a new price tag on Luis Diaz amid growing interest from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Arne Slot is planning for the Colombia international to be a part of his squad in the upcoming season, but a fee of £69m would force him to consider his options.
Liverpool rejected a £58m bid from Bayern Munich on Tuesday (15 July), and there are rumours that Diaz is pushing for a move.
Barcelona are not willing to meet his asking price, having set a price cap of £51m in their pursuit.
