Tiger Woods’ niece has brought pride to her famous uncle by being inducted into a prestigious Hall of Fame. Cheyenne Woods, a professional on the LPGA Tour, was a standout collegiate athlete at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, which has welcomed the 34-year-old into its Sports Hall of Fame.

Cheyenne, who is married to New York Yankees star Aaron Hicks, was joined by her husband and their two young children at the ceremony. With two tournament wins under her belt, Cheyenne has also competed in the US Women’s Open and Women’s British Open. Upon accepting the honour, Cheyenne referenced her legendary uncle, saying via The News and Observer: “I come from a family with a very large name in the world of golf being Woods.

“And it’s really nice to be able to bring my kids back and see a woman Woods, a female Woods, who has been able to accomplish something and carry on the family name.”

As Tiger’s half-niece and the maternal granddaughter of his late father, Earl, Cheyenne has spoken about the influence that both have had on her career. In a 2018 interview with CNN, she said: “Since I’ve been professional, he’s [Tiger] been very helpful and just been willing to help.”

Meanwhile, Tiger is dealing with the death of his mother, Kultida, which may see him miss the Players Championship at Sawgrass, which starts on March 13. After his team was knocked out of the TGL competition, the venture he launched with Rory McIlroy, Tiger revealed his lack of practice time recently.

He attributed this to mourning his mother and his duties on the PGA Tour’s policy board. Via Sports Illustrated, he said: “This is the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed, so I haven’t really gotten into it.

“My heart is really not into practising right now. I’ve had so many other things to do with the Tour and trying to do other things. Once I start probably feeling a little bit better and start getting into it, I’ll start looking at the schedule.”

Woods announced his mother’s death on February 4, posting on X: “It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh.

“She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”
